Week 4 Story: Saint Francis the Boaster

Image
There was once a Saint named Saint Francis, and he was known for his unmatched joy. Saint Francis had nothing: no home, no money and no food. Though offered all of these things, he denied each of them in hopes of embodying a life similar to his own master, God.  Saint Francis loved all things, and all things loved him back. He was not only kind to creatures that were not loved by others, but he was also always positive amongst the beggars who could not act in this same way. Saint Francis was a servant of God, and it showed in all of his emotions and actions.  Painting of Saint Francis of Assisi in Mexico. Taken from WikiMedia. Because of his joy, Saint Francis was offered many gifts. He was able to bring spirits up when they were so low, and people wanted to repay him for his positivity. One day, a wealthy woman came to Saint Francis bearing gifts. "Take these gifts," the woman said, "you have done so much for me, now I must repay you." Saint Fra

Reading Notes: Saint Francis of Assisi, Reading B

Saint Francis was possessed with a "magic charm," which was his smile. His smile grew from love, and it embodied all that he did and everyone that he passed. Everything coming from Saint Francis was thought to be good, because of this smile of comfort and generosity. Like many of his peers, Saint Francis was a beggar. He was poor, homeless, ill and often hungry. He had every reason not to smile, but he described that being a servant of God was enough for him to be happy. Others were not able to do the same, which made him stand out. Painting of Saint Francis of Assisi in Mexico. Taken from WikiMedia. Saint Francis was not only happy against all odds, he also was not afraid of the creatures of the world. He was not afraid of these animals, and they trusted him in return. He was a joyful poet, yet there was no one in a worse place as Francis. He had no food, no money, nowhere to sleep, yet he wanted to be poor this way because Christ was poor and he wanted to live ju

Reading Notes: Saint Blaise and His Beasts, Part A

Image
This story is about Saint Blaise, the saint who loved all animals and all animals loved in return. Saint Blaise was a Christian that studied medicine, and he loved all things that lived. By all living things, I mean all living things. He did not just love the cute animals, but the beasts, too. Saint Blaise would even train untamed creatures that were often neglected. The animals learned to love Saint Blaise, and come visit him to be healed from illness and kindly talked to. Saint Blaise and his animals. Taken from Wikipedia. One day, one of Saint Blaise's animals deceived him. A woman came to him crying about her pig that got taken away by a wolf, so Saint Blaise took ownership for the tragedy. After speaking with the wolf sternly, asking the wolf to bring the pig back, the wolf listened. The pig was returned to the woman unharmed, and the wolf was given a reward for listening to Saint Blaise. Saint Blaise was constantly living in his forest cave, so some could never

Feedback Strategies

Image
For this assignment, I chose " Be A Mirror " and " Specific Feedback That Helps Kids Grow. " "Be A Mirror" From this article, I learned several things. First, that there are five qualities of feedback that foster growth mindset: 1) be specific, 2) focus on what the reader is doing, not missing, 3) focus on the process and the work put into it, 4) make sure it can transfer and 5) take yourself out of the feedback. These are very helpful tips regarding feedback, because it puts you in a mindset to do unto others as you want others to do unto you! From this article, I also learned to being feedback with "I like how you..." or "I think..." because it puts you personally into the words that you're about to say to someone else, which makes you think in terms of if someone were speaking to you. I'll definitely use these strategies in the future. Photo from Yeah Write. "Specific Feedback that Helps Kids Grow" This

Topic Research

Image
This week, I have decided to further look into my project topic focused around public relations (my major). This focus can be taken many different ways, because PR focuses on reputation management, crisis communication, technology, communication and so much more. As I looked through the many stories given to us, I have found three possible stories that I think could fit my topic best. PR incorporates various different subjects. Photo from Smart Insights. #1: " Alice's Journey... Through Social Media? " As I wrote about in week two's project, this story really stood out to me. As a PR major, my job will likely include social media. This made me interested in incorporating technology and the media into stories without these things. As suggested by Ms. Gibbs, the Queen of Hearts could hire a PR agency, any of the wonderland characters could use a PR consultant or I could do a PR-take on Alice herself. These got me thinking further, and I also thought of the idea

Famous Last Words: Getting in the Swing of Things

Image
In the midst of week three, I feel like I'm finally getting back into the swing of things. The readings I read this week were Biblical, which I found very interesting. I am a Christian myself, so hearing different stories about the Bible is always interesting. My two stories were about Adam and Eve and Mary, which I'm very familiar with. I kind of found it difficult, though, to write a story about these because they're stories that are so engrained in my brain. But - I ended up writing my story about Mary being devious, which is in no way my beliefs - just for the purpose of this class! I read other people's stories and blogs this week, and I found this very interesting. Some people are great storytellers, and I did not originally include dialogue in my stories like some people did. However, I plan to in the future! It was fun reading introductions, because I had a lot in common with many people in this class. My other classes are going fine. I have an internship t

Week 3 Story: Mary... The Hurter?

Image
Way back when, there was a woman named Mary. Now Mary was the mother of baby Jesus, which I know some people have been informed about, and others think, is a myth. Mary’s miracle of birthing a child on behalf of God’s terms was undoubtedly a mystery, but did that really mean she had superhuman powers? Way back when, there was a woman named Mary. Mary was the mother of baby Jesus, and had this child because God called on her. Some believed this story, while others believed it was a myth. Clearly a virgin having a child has to be given some sort of superhuman powers, right? Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus. Photo from Wikipedia. Mary was thought to be a healer: someone with unordinary power to heal all kinds of things that seemed to be a lost cause. At this time, there were many success stories about Mary’s powers on people that needed healing. Specifically, healing people with a particular disease. One day, a disea
